Lambs and traffic jams

It’s been almost a week now since I left New Zealand and flew to Holland. This first week we have spent most days meeting family again and catching up with everyone (possibly a little bit very boring for Lance as everyone talks Dutch).

On Tuesday we went to visit mums best friend in our old village (Reeuwijk). It’s such a strange thing to walk through our old street and see our house. It’s as if life stood still here, but mine has been like a roller coaster ride. Being back in Holland has made me realize that although I absolutely love seeing everyone again, there’s no way I would ever want to live here again. I said to mum the other day. If you would have asked me about 3 years ago where my home was, I wouldn’t have been able to give you an answer. I felt very torn between two countries for a long time, but being back here has made me realize that NZ is my home now. I sometimes really feel like a tourist in my own country, which isn’t really my own anymore.

My old bedroom on the first floor with balcony.

On Wednesday we went to visit my other grandparents in Capelle aan den Ijssel, near Rotterdam. Their house is like a little museum! I forgot to take photos of it, but will upload some next time we’ve been. My oma looooves antiques and there is not a square meter not filled with stuff. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much furniture in a such a small space! Lance was petrified to break something! I decided to take him up to the 10th floor, where you can look out over the city and even see a little bit of Rotterdam. I had only taken my phone, so the photo is not the greatest, but we’re planning a trip to Rotterdam soon, so better photos will come!

Yesterday morning I heard a knock on the door and was told by the woman who lives here on the farm that her husband was in he barn as two lambs were being born and that we were more than welcome to go have a look, so I grabbed my camera and headed over. The actual birth wasn’t quite upload worthy, but I did take a few photos of a couple day old lambs.

And while I was having a look around the property I came across this room. How amazing would this be for a photoshoot!!

Later that day we were meeting my grandparents for dinner at a restaurant they wanted to take us to. Not having being in Holland for a while, we kiiiinda forgot about traffic jams and ended up being an hour late!! (And this one wasn’t even that bad!)
(Translation: Traffic jam during rush hour)

Note that this is a two way street!

Dinner ended up being amazing though!

… the temperature however…
